Ideas for the Outer Court

Outer Court - East Range The north east third of the outer court is planned to house  bunkhouse accommodation. The aim is to provide basic affordable accommodation for visitors. Various sized bedrooms are planned to span the upper floor of the NE and middle sections of the outer court. Then on the ground floor there will be a disabled/family room and shared Facilities which include toilets, shower rooms, laundry kitchen and sitting area. These utilities could also be used by campers pitching tents in the yard.
For the lower middle section proposals are to have a wood workshop that could be used by the History Group or rented to anyone. The History Group would also display a permanent fishing exhibition in this area with glass doors/windows where the arches are to enhance this feature.

In the south east section plans are to house the Whalsay Learning Centre. This would provide them with much needed extra space and 2 rooms equipped with the latest educational technology. In the upper floor above the learning centre there are 2 rooms which could be used for remote office space or extra studios to rent.

With the development of these units ideas for summer schools have been put forward, like short courses in family history research, traditional crafts, music sessions, boating etc.
